Youth Connection is a nationally recognized, best practice program for youth between the ages of 5-14. The purpose of this evidence-based program is to provide children living in high-risk situations with the skills and support they need to overcome adversity, stay in school, and stay free of drugs, violence, and crime. Additionally, Youth Connection increases protective factors by teaching coping and social skills and providing the emotional support needed to reduce anti-social attitudes and rebellious behaviors (correlated risk factors). The Youth Connection program curriculum includes social and substance abuse prevention skills delivered in a highly-structured support group process by a trained, caring group facilitator. Lessons include: Getting to Know You; A Celebration of Me; Feelings; Handling Anger; Dreams & Goal Setting; Making Healthy Choices; Friends; Resisting Negative Peer Pressure; Chemical Dependency; and Changes & Challenges.
