Melisa, a Kalamazoo native, was given an amazing opportunity to find and follow her passion for working with individuals and families through continued education, thanks to the Kalamazoo Promise. With this opportunity, Melisa decided to attend Western Michigan University where she earned her degree in Child and Family Development. During her time in college, Melisa found a deep interest in the impact that preventative education can have on individuals, families, and communities.

​In addition to her education, Melisa has years of experience working as a preschool and infant teacher within the community. This work had allowed her to see the benefits that nonprofits are making in Kalamazoo. Melisa has dedicate her career to making a difference in our community. By joining the Prevention Works team she is fulfilling her dreams.

When Melisa is not working she enjoys nature, art, new foods, and British comedy. Melisa is always starting new projects and learning new skills.

Melisa’s role as the business operations assistant has led her to cover many branches of Prevention Works. The tool that represents this role is an umbrella, covering and helping all members of the Prevention Works team in some way. The umbrella represents bringing a cohesive unity through the operations of all departments throughout Prevention Works. Melisa is always happy to share her umbrella to provide help to any member of the Prevention Works team.
