Programming Intern |
I have recently graduated from Western Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in science. I majored in Child and Family Development with a minor in Gender and Women studies. I am currently a summer intern at prevention works. My responsibilities include preparing materials needed for Peer Power such as lesson plans, treats for youth, and supplies that go along with the lesson each week. I conduct reference calls for future part time employees including peer educators and outreach workers. I gather and organize office supplies to ease the flow of the organization. I have the luxury of implementing Peer Power sessions to youth at various organizations as an outreach worker. I’ve had the opportunity to attend program meetings including updates about the organization, brainstorming ideas and evaluations to gain a better understanding of the services Prevention works provide to individuals and the community. I have also attended trainings on new curriculums for violence and too good for drugs. My favorite part of interning at prevention works are interacting with youth during Peer Power and getting to interact with staff. Following my internship I plan to continue my relationship with Prevention Works, working part time as a program facilitator/outreach worker.
