Giovanna has had a passion for health and education her entire life. Early in her college career the decision was made to blend the two interests together and a career in health education was created. Giovanna earned a degree in School Health Education and Communications from Western Michigan University. Giovanna has spent her adult life instilling healthy values to people of all ages in a number of different settings. As a middle school health education teacher for Three Rivers Community Schools, Giovanna taught healthy living to students grades 6-8 for 5 years while coaching a variety of sports. Teaching public school took a backseat upon the arrival of her first child which shifted the focus of health to infants rather than teenagers. For the past 5 years, Giovanna has been pouring her love for health education into students at Western Michigan University where she teaches over 5 different courses in the Department of Human Performance and Health Education. This fall (2017) she plans to return to WMU as both a teacher and a student to pursue a graduate degree in Public Health. However, her health instruction and learning doesn’t stop there. Giovanna is a wife and Mommy to now three children (8yr, 5yr & 3yr ) who all benefit from her healthy lifestyle habits and constant health reminders! Aside from teaching Giovanna enjoys designing and crafting for her small business, Chiave Designs, that she and her husband started in 2017, vacationing with her family, and completing DIY projects around her home! You will most always find Giovanna at the local Home Depot on the weekends exploring the paint section for her next project!

What "tool" helps you get the job done?
​A PAINTBRUSH

As a project manager I am given assignments that need a creative edge, added detail, and artistic flair! It is my job to add a more in depth layer to certain areas of our curriculum, paint a better understanding  for our community, and color the words in such a way that we can achieve understanding and true prevention within the members of our community. With this paintbrush I am able to blend and color the specific areas that need attention while creating a vibrant canvas worthy of paying attention to.   ​
