We are making an impact on the Kalamazoo Community

Prevention Works, Inc. currently develops and delivers research-based prevention education programs that encourage young people and families to make wise decisions and live healthy lives. Major programs address substance abuse prevention, pregnancy prevention, fetal infant mortality reduction strategies, violence prevention, parenting, equality awareness, and adolescent health. Prevention Works programs are designed to be both engaging and educational. Programs provide information through the use of experiential learning activities, team building opportunities, role plays, group discussion, goal setting opportunities, and behavior modification strategies. Direct service staff are often recruited from the target population with a diverse range of ages, genders, races, and ethnicities that are representative of the target population. Participants have the opportunity to experience learning opportunities with a diverse team of facilitators who model professionalism and teamwork while working as a collaborative force within the community. All direct services staff are either Substance Abuse Prevention Specialists or Certified Health Education Specialists or supervised by someone who is. Each program is extensively evaluated for quality control and sustainability. Use of the outcome data is very important to our community when looking to sustain or expand programming. Partnerships with schools and other organizations allow Prevention Works to remove barriers and share data to obtain the best outcome for our community.
