Andrea Anderson is a hometown girl and has recently returned to Kalamazoo after working in Hawaii for the past 6 years. She is a graduate of Western Michigan University with a degree in Education and Family Studies. She has focused the bulk of her career on social justice issues that directly impact youth and women. She has worked with families since the early 1990’s - Lakeside Academy, Edison School-Based Health Center, and Planned Parenthood are just a few of the organizations where she has honed her craft of educating and empowering community members to help make the world a better place.
Andrea is a Global Learner, having traveled and lived in many countries on our planet. She attended University in Nice, France, lived in Germany as an exchange student with her swim team, taught nursing students about reproduction in the Philippines and has lived and explored many countries in Europe including England and Denmark – where her family is originally from. She is a First Generation American and believes that learning about other cultures, customs, ethnicities and nationalities is the best way to break down walls of intolerance and injustice.
Andrea recently accomplished several of her #lifegoals – she gave a TedTalk last year in Honolulu on the importance of having honest communication about sexuality AND she married the love of her life TWICE! Once in Hawaii and the second time in Michigan!
While not working or volunteering, Andrea loves to read, play with her dog Athena, cook, travel, sit by the water and practice yoga.
